Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Maculogic.

How do I install Maculogic?

Download the installer from our download page and run it. The one-click installer sets everything up automatically. Maculogic requires Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) with at least 4 GB RAM and 500 MB free disk space.

How do I activate my license?

After purchasing a license, you can activate it in two ways: (1) Sign in with your Maculogic account in Settings > Account — your license will sync automatically. (2) Enter your license key manually in Settings > License. You'll need an internet connection only once for activation.

Can I transfer my license to a new computer?

Yes. Professional licenses include 2 device transfers per year, and Clinic licenses include 2 transfers per device. Deactivate on the old device first, then activate on the new one through your customer portal or the desktop app.

Does Maculogic work without internet?

Yes. Maculogic is offline-first by design. After initial license activation (which requires a brief internet connection), the application works completely offline. All patient data is stored locally on your device using encrypted SQLite.

How do I back up my data?

Go to Settings > Data to create and manage backups. Maculogic creates encrypted backup files that can be stored on external drives or network storage. We recommend regular backups, especially before software updates.

I forgot my database master password. What do I do?

The master password protects your local database encryption and cannot be reset remotely — this is a security feature. If you set a password hint, it will be displayed on the unlock screen. If you've completely lost access, contact support for guidance on data recovery options.

How do I update Maculogic?

Maculogic checks for updates automatically when connected to the internet. You'll see a notification banner when an update is available. Click 'Download' to get the update, then 'Restart' to install it. You can also check manually via the menu: Maculogic > Check for Updates.

Where is my patient data stored?

All data is stored locally on your device in an AES-256 encrypted SQLite database. We never transmit, access, or store your patient data on our servers. The database is protected by your master password and hardware-bound encryption.

Desktop App Troubleshooting

Finding Your Hardware ID

Open the app, go to Settings > License. Your Hardware ID is displayed there. You can copy it to clipboard with one click.

Application Logs

If you're experiencing issues, app logs are stored in %APPDATA%/maculogic/logs/. Include these when contacting support for faster resolution.

Checking Your Version

Go to Settings > General to see your current version. Make sure you're running the latest version before reporting issues.

Data Recovery

If your database appears corrupted, try restoring from a recent backup via Settings > Data. Always keep backups on a separate drive.
